Biography

Krishna Kumar (also known as K.K./Kay Kay) is an Indian playback singer. He is a prominent singer in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films. His name is often confused with the similar screen name of a Bollywood actor, Kay Kay Menon.

Born in Thrissur, Kerala, Krishna Kumar was brought up in New Delhi. A product of Mount St. Mary's School, Delhi Cantt. and a graduate of Delhi University, he waited at tables for six months before he got his break, singing in a jingle for a commercial. He appeared in "Josh of India" song for the support of Indian Cricket Team during Cricket World Cup 1999. Following this, he released an album called Pal the title song of which struck a chord with listeners. Songs titled "Aap ki Dua" and "Yaaron" from the same album were also popular.

His first song for a Bollywood film was Chhod Aaye Hum (Maachis). But it was the song Tadap Tadap, from the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, that brought him into limelight.

His recently released album Humsafar did not go as well as he expected, but some songs fared well such as Raina Bhari Kaari, Ye Kahaan mil Gaye Hum and Aasmaan ke.

Back in Bollywood, he notched up winners with songs such as "Tu Aashiqui Hai" from "Jhankaar Beats" (for which he received a National Award), "Chand Ki Roshni Se" from "Home Delivery", "Awarapan Banjarapan" from "Jism", "It's The Time To Disco" from "Kal Ho Naa Ho" and the smash hit "Dus Bahaane" (with Shaan) from the film "Dus". His recent hit songs include "Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai" from the movie Gangster,"O meri Jaan" from Life in a Metro, "Soniye Soniye" from "Aksar", "Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar Hai" from "Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar Hai", "Alvida Alvida" from "Life in a Metro", "Ajab Si" from "Om Shanti Om" and "Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai" from "Woh Lamhe". His latest smash hit "khuda jaane" is from the film "Bachna Ae Haseeno" released in August 2008.

Although, a new singer, his distinctly clear voice and excellent throw has made him Pritam, Vishal-Shekhar and other music director's favorite. Also, according to many, he is the new voice of India in the sense that almost all struggling singers want his voice.

On January 24 2008, KK's second album Humsafar was released.

He has also sung in South Indian languages - Tamil and Telugu. His Tamil songs popular in Chennai are My Name is Billa from Movie Billa. Uyirin Uyiray from Kaakha Kaakha, Kadalikkum Asai Undu from Movie Chellame, Appadi Podu from Ghilli.

Krishnakumar Kunnath (born 23rd August 1968), popularly known as KK or Kay Kay, is an Indian playback singer. He is a prominent singer in HindiTeluguTamilKannada and Malayalam films.[1]
Born in Delhi to Malayali parents C. S. Menon and Kanakavalli,[2] Krishnakumar Kunnath was brought up in New Delhi.[3] KK sang 3,500 jingles before Bollywood break. He is an alumnus of Delhi's Mount St. Mary school.[4] He appeared in "Josh of India" song for the support of Indian Cricket Team during Cricket World Cup 1999.[5] Following this, he released an album called Pal for which he received a Star Screen Award for the Best Solo Album.[6]
He successfully launched the Album Humsafar 8 years after the first album, in Jan 2008. Humsafar, came eight years after the release of KK's super-hit debut album Pal.[1] It belongs to the pop-rock genre and has a total of 10 songs. Humsafar has two songs – "Din Ho Ya Raat" and "Mehki Hawa" – from Pal, KK's earlier album. The album has a fun-filled romantic number – "Aasman Ke", featuring the singer and a south Indian model, Suhasi Goradia Dhami, in the video. "Humsafar", the title track, an interplay of English and Hindi lyrics, is about one's conscience and how it is a constant companion in the journey of life. One of the songs, "Yeh Kahan", was penned seven years before the release and "Dekho Na", a rock number, was written six years ago. The rest of the six songs came about in the last two years before the release.[1] Other songs in the album include "Rain Bhai Kaari", a mix of Bengali Baul with rock and a tinge of S D Burman, and "Cineraria", a fun-filled English ballad. His latest song "Kabhi Aayine Pe Likha Tujhe" from the movie Hate Story 2 is well received by the audience and is also among the top 10 chart busters.
KK is praised by most of the Bollywood music personalities. Pritam Chakraborty is admittedly a huge fan of his. Singer Arijit Singh has said he is a big fan of KK's. Ankit Tiwari said KK is his idol and inspiration. SingerJaved Ali claimed he really likes KK as his favourite recent singer along with Sonu Nigam. Sufi Singer Roop Kumar Rathod said, he prefers KK more than other singers, because in every song KK creates something special. Popular singer Kumar Sanu named KK as the most versatile singer in today's age.

He has been greatly influenced by the singer Kishore Kumar and music director R. D. Burman. KK is the only singer who can't attune to the concept that a singer's face must be prominently seen. KK believes in "A singer must be heard.".[9]
