The vivacious actress has received the Zee Cine Awards 2012 in the Best Supporting Actress category.
Swara is the daughter of the outspoken critic Chitapatu Uday Bhaskar and the renowned cinema professor and author Ira Bhaskar. She has a sibling brother.

Swara Bhaskar (born on 9 April, 1988) is an Indian film actress who works in the Hindi cinema. She came to prominence after playing the roles of Payal, in the 2011 rom-com film Tanu Weds Manu, Bindiya in the 2013 romantic drama Raanjhanaa, and Payal in the 2015 romantic comedy Tanu Weds Manu Returns. All of the films garnered her critical acclaim and first two gained her nominations for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Swara was born in Delhi to a Telugu Naval officer Chitrapu Uday Bhaskar and his Bihari[1][2] wife Ira Bhaskar who is a professor of cinema studies in Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Her maternal grandmother was from Varanasi.[3]
Bhaskar grew up in Delhi,[4] where she did her schooling from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya[5] and subsequently studied English literature at Delhi University's Miranda House where she was classmate with another actress Minisha Lamba. She did her masters in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).[6][7][8]
Career[edit]
Before Swara started acting in films she was associated with N. K. Sharma's "Act One" theater group in Delhi.[9] She shifted to Mumbai in 2008,[3] started her film career with a 2009 film Madholal Keep Walking.[4][10] She was finally noticed by audience as well as critics in the film Tanu Weds Manu in which she played the role of Payal, lead actress Kangana Ranaut's best friend,[2] for which she won several nominations and also the Best Supporting Actress award conferred by the Zee Cine Awards.[11] Swara played the lead role in Listen... Amaya (2013), which also saw the reunion of actors Farooq Sheikh andDeepti Naval after 28 years.[12]
In 2013, she appeared in Raanjhanaa, along with Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, and received praise for her role as Bindiya.[13]
Her upcoming films include, Sabki Bajegi Band directed by Anirudhh Chawla and Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai by Debaloy De.[3] She was recently spotted shooting for the Abbas Tyrewala-directed Mango, starringChandan Roy Sanyal and Monali Thakur, being produced under the banner of Kaleidoscope Entertainment.[14] She also hosted Samvidhaan (TV Series) in 2014.[15] She has completed her filming for Sooraj Barjatya's next, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo[16] and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's upcoming film Nil Battey Sannata, a story situated in Agra.[17]
On her trip to Lahore, Pakistan in April 2015, she appeared as guest in one of the Pakistani TV comedy show 'Mazaaq Raat' which was aired on 27th April 2015.[18]
