Rahil Azam (born September 27, 1981 Bangalore) is an Indian model and television actor. He studied Software engineering in Banglore. He joined Kishore Namit Kapoor's acting classes for three months. Azam started his career with modeling and did a few commercial ads, then he worked in a music video for late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Roop Kumar Rathod. In 2001, he got his first break in daily soap Ek Tukda Chaand Ka. He then rose to prominence after starring lead in Sagar Films' adventure fantasy drama Hatim on Star Plus, for which he gained huge success and won Star Parivaar Award for Favourite Action Star.

Early life[edit]

Rahil Azam was born September 27, 1981 in Banglore, India.[2] He has one elder sister. Azam did his schooling from Clarence High School and graduation in software engineering from B.M.S. College of Engineering.[3]Since childhood he wanted to become an actor, for which he joined Kishore Namit Kapoor's acting classes for three months.[4] Alongside acting in televisions, he is currently active in his family business in Bengalore. He elaborated in an interview with The Times of India,"TV is 90% a women-dominated medium. Male actors get to work in only 10% of the remaining space and there's only 2% of creative space left in that, which I work in. I am not a machine and I cannot do run-of-the-mill stuff. I keep getting offers but I don't take them. I am a software engineer by profession and I have my family business in Bangalore, so I keep myself busy with that." Apart from acting, he wanted to be a Jockey.[5]

Career[edit]

Azam made his television debut with daily soap Ek Tukda Chaand Ka. Later he appeared in episodic roles in horror show Ssshhhh...Koi Hai on Star Plus in 2001. After that he did another horror show Achanak 37 Saal Baad.[6] Azam also played in Bhabhi as Rakesh.
In 2003, Azam approached to play the lead in Sagar Films' adventure-fantasy drama series Hatim on Star Plus. The story starts with the birth of the emperor of Yemen's son, Hatim, of whom is said that he will spread the message of peace and good. Hatim has to solve seven questions to defeat the evil sorcerer lord Dajjal (played by Nirmal Pandey) aided by Najumi.[7]
Later on May 2004, Azam featured as the male lead role of Ashmit Malhotra in Vipul D. Shah's drama show Ye Meri Life Hai, he nominated for the Best Actor in a Negative - Male at Indian Telly Awards.[8] After he played the role of Suraj Kiran in Saarrthi.[9][10] In 2005, he did an episodic role in C.I.D, where he played the negative character of ACP Praduman's son, Nakul. Azam came back in C.I.D. on 2 January 2015, to take revenge from his father as a member of a terrorist gang in the episode "Nakul Returns".[11][12]
In 2008 he has played the dual character of a woman and man as a split personality in Ratna Sinha's show Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na, for which he received a nomination in the Best Actor category at Indian Television Academy Awards.[13]

On March 2009, he was approached for the lead role of Raka in Sunil Vohra's show Seeta Aur Geeta, but he was out of the show due to Malaria.[14] Thereafter he played the lead role of Abhimanyu Mishra in Sahara One's TV show Mr. & Mrs. Mishra.[15]
In 2010, Azam played the male lead in Star Plus's show Gulaal. He portrayed the role of Vasant, opposite Manasi Parekh Gohil.[15]
On July 2013, he was approached for the role of Vanraj in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's show Saraswatichandra, but he was out of the show and replaced by Aanshul Trivedi.[16][17] He was last seen as Malik Khan in Zee TV's showHitler Didi.[18] Currently he is playing the lead role of Chander in life OK's mini-series Ek Tha Chander Ek Thi Sudha.[19][20]
