2nd March 2015 is the 29th death anniversary of renowned Marathi actor Dr.Kashinath Ghanekar. Dr.Ghanekar, a Dental Surgeon by profession, had a great fan following during the 60s and 70s, when he was at the pinnacle of glory in Marathi plays and films. Dr.Ghanekar who entered Marathi stage with ‘Garambhicha Bapu’ staged record number of shows for many years, with different actresses. His Marathi play ‘Ashrunchi Jhali Phule’ wherein he had portrayed the popular character of ‘Lalya’, received overwhelming response from the audience. Prabhakar Panshikar had played the role of his professor in this play. Due to the popularity of this play, a Hindi film ‘Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool’ was made later with Ashok Kumar as the professor and Deb Mukherjee as his student.

Dr.Kashinath Ghanekar was a versatile actor and performed in many Marathi films, many of them became hits. He had done three films with actress Uma Bhende, out of which ‘Madhuchandra’ was a super hit film, with Dr.Kashinath playing double role. Zee Talkies spoke to Uma Bhende and her director husband Prakash Bhende, who recalled their memories about this great Marathi actor, who had also done few Hindi films.  

“Dr.Kashinath was basically a stage actor and he excelled while performing on stage. All his shows used to draw full house. He was so popular. He was at his best as 'lalya' in ‘Ashrunchi Jhali Phule’ and as Bapu in ‘Garambhicha Bapu’,” he said. Ms. Uma Bhende, while speaking about Dr.Kashinath, described him as an actor ‘par excellence’. “Dr.Kashinath  was always helpful to all his co stars and offered some tips on the sets during the breaks. His best quality was that he was totally committed to his acting in spite of running his dental clinic at Worli. I remember having visited his clinic once for my dental work,” she said.

Kashinath Ghanekar was one of the fabolous actor of marathi films.
Kashinath Ghanekar is an Indian actor who appeared in many Marathi films & stage shows (Natak) in the 1960s. He was a doctor by profession. He did extensive work on stage dramas. In addition to Marathi stage and movies, he appeared in Hindi movies such as Abhilasha opposite Nanda and Dadi Maa where he played the role of the son of Ashok Kumar and Bina Roy.
People used to travel miles, to see him act in dramas like " Gaarambichaa Baapu, ,Ashrunchi Zali Phule, Raaigad la Jevha Jaag Yete etc
His performance in the role of Chhrapati Shambhaji maharaj in the play Ithe Oshalala Mrutyu is memorable.

He got married to Kanchan daughter of well known Marathi actress sulochana (The most famous mother in bollywood cinema)

He died after 4 years of his marriage. His death was a great Shock to the marathi film industry. With his death Marathi Natya & Film industry lost a great Actor.
