New Delhi: TV actress Pallavi Joshi is the recent celebrity to come in limelight post the FTII row over the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as its chairman.
After award-winning filmmaker Jahnu Barua reportedly expressed his wish to not consider him a part of the FTII society, Pallavi too has reportedly written to I & B Ministry asking them to no longer hold her as a part of the society and its governing council.
Noted actor Pallavi Joshi has resigned as member of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society, pledging support to the agitation by the students demanding removal of mini screen actor Gajendra Chauhan as chairman of the institute.
"There is no point in continuing as member of the FTII Society if the students with whom I wanted to interact as future prospects of the film industry, are unhappy," Joshi told PTI today.
Pallavi, who is a well known actress said she was eager to be a part of the society but if the students are not happy, then she too sees no point in continuing in the society.
Chauhan, who is affiliated to the BJP, is known for the role of Yudhisthir in the epic teleseries `Mahabharat`.
Over 200 students protested and went on strike over his appointment and demanded his removal last month.
Chauhan said the protest is not centered at one location, and that it is happening in different locations.
"It is a conspiracy of some individual, who has a personal issue here. This matter is being politicised," he said.
Chauhan requested the striking students to stay away from this politics as it will not benefit them.
Speaking about his credentials to be appointed to the FTII post, Chauhan said, "I have been interviewed by the I&B ministry multiple times before I was put on this post. It was not an overnight decision by anyone."
Pallavi has acted in films like Badla & Aadmi Sadak Ka as a child artiste.

Eminent filmmaker Jahnu Barua has written to the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry offering his resignation from the post of the member of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society.
On Sunday, actor Pallavi Joshi had resigned from the FTII Society in support of the students.
Unwilling to specify the date when he wrote to the Ministry, 12 times National Award winner Barua said, “I have been a part of the FTII Governing Council in the past and have always offered my assistance to the government as a member. However, my assessment of the current circumstances told me that things are not in the favour of institute and the students.”
The Assamese filmmaker, who is known for films like Ajeyo, Baandhon, Ride on the Rainbow, And the River Flows and The Price of Freedom among several others, further said, “Hence as someone who has studied at FTII and has shared a good association with the institute, I decided to write to the ministry and have shown my reservation in being a member of the FTII Society.”
A graduate from Gauhati University, Barua did a course in film direction from FTII.
Meanwhile, the students of FTII are continuing the strike that they had launched on June 12 in protest of actor Gajendra Chauhan’s appointment as the chairman of the FTII governing council by the I&B Ministry.
The students had a meeting with the Ministry on July 3, after which they decided to continue with the strike as their demand for removal of Chauhan and a few more members, wasn’t met by the Ministry.

Earlier filmmaker Jahnu Barua and well-known cinematographer Santosh Sivan also had reportedly written to the FTII asking them to not be considered as a part of the FTII society or its governing council.
"There is no point in continuing as member of the FTII Society if the students with whom I wanted to interact as future prospects of the film industry, are unhappy," Joshi said on Monday.
Describing her decision as a "principled stand", Joshi, who was recently nominated to the FTII Society by the Centre, said she put in her letter dissociating herself from the body three days back.
Asked if she would reconsider her decision on request from authorities concerned, she said, "I am firm on my stand supporting the students' demands...I do not want to see the students of this premiere institute joining the film industry unsatisfactorily with half-baked knowledge," Joshi said.

Other well-known people who are a part of the FTII society are: Shailesh Gupta, Cinematographer; Rajkumar Hirani, Filmmaker; Vidya Balan, actress; Rahul Solapurkar, actor; Pranjal Saikia, actor among others.
Meanwhile, the FTII Students' Association reiterated that they will continue their 24-day old strike till their main demands of Chauhan's removal and reconstitution of the FTII Society are met.
Briefing reporters about their hour-long meeting with Jaitley, FSA spokesman Vikas Ursclaimed the minister evaded their core concern (reconstitution of FTII society and removal of Chauhan as chairman) during the discussions and gave an assurance of setting up a new committee to address the issues raised by the delegation for "future appointments".
Urs, a member of the students' delegation that met Jaitley, quoted the Minister as having said, "If the students persisted with reconstitution of the FTII society( implying Chauhan's removal), they might face bleak prospects of a shutdown or privatisation of the FTII".
"There was no solution offered to end the strike and all solutions were for future. No justification or reasoning was offered for appointment of Chauhan or other members of the FTII society. Since our main concern is still exists, the strike is on", Urs said.
FTII Director DJ Narain contradicted the FSA version of the discussion with Jaitley in respect of privatisation and shutdown of FTII. "The minister did not talk about privatisation or a shutdown of the institute at all. FSA totally misunderstood what the minister said in reference to the report of Geeta Krishnan committee in the late 90's recommending privatisation of institutions including FTII which the I and B ministry did not accept. On the contrary the ministry pumped more funds to boost the FTII", he said.
