Swapnil Joshi (born October 18, 1977) is an Indian film and television actor, in Hindi and Marathi languages.[1] He is mainly known for his comic roles. He has done lead roles in TV series, Krishna (1993), Hare Kkaanch Ki Choodiyaan (2005), Marathi film Checkmate (2008) and Marathi film Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai (2010),Duniyadari (2013). As a stand-up comedian he first appeared in Comedy Circus 1 (2007), with VIP where the duo with Runners up,[2] in Comedy Circus 2 (2008), where he performed with Purbi Joshi as a celebrity guest, later he appeared as contestant in Comedy Circus sequel, Maha Sangram (2010), with comedian, V.I.P., which they eventually won.[3]
He featured as a judge in the show Fu Bai Fu. He also is the lead role in TV comedy series Papad Pol - Shahabuddin Rathod Ki Rangeen Duniya (2010) .[4] He performed a leading role in the TV Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta and Golmaal Hai Bhai Sab Golmaal Hai.

Early and personal life[edit]

Swwapnil Joshi was born on 18 October 1977 in Mumbai. He did his schooling from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Parsee Charitable InstitutionCharni Road, and later completed his graduation in commerce from Sydenham CollegeChurchgate. After getting divorced, he married Leena Aradhye on 16 December 2011. Aradhye also is a dentist. [5]

Career[edit]

He started his TV career at the age of nine, when Ramanand Sagar offered him the role of young Kusha in the mythological TV series, Uttar Ramayana (1986). Ramanand Sagar was to later give him another role, a lead this time, in mythological TV series, Krishna (1993) where he portrayed a Hindu deity.
He acted in one Marathi serial titled Adhuri Ek Kahani as the character of Yash. He then played the role of Sam, the prodigal son of the Singh household in a soap opera. His performances in the other soaps include Amanat (1997), Hudd Kar Di (1999), Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand, and Dil Vil Pyar Vyar.
He turned to stand-up comedy and appeared on the show Comedy Circus in an act with comedian, V.I.P., with whom he continued to work on the Hijras where they took second place. Later, he also took part in the Season 3 Kaante Ki Takkar and Season 6 which he won Maha Sangram (2010).[2] He was also the winner of Mr. & Ms. TV (2008).[6] In 2006, he appeared on Sachin's Kadvee Khatee Meethi on Star One, and three years later returned to sitcom with Ghar Ki Baat Hai (2009).[7]
Meanwhile, he also acted in Hindi-comedy play, Tea, Coffee or Me (2006).[8]
He has hosted the TV reality series, Ladies Special a stand-up comedy show for female comedians on Zee TV (2007) and Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka (2008). The TV Serial Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta aired.[1]
His film works include Manini(2008) Checkmate and Mumbai Pune Mumbai'. He got the Maharashtra State Award for Best Supporting Actor for Checkmate.[citation needed] Swapnil played the lead role in the Marathi drama Get well soon, directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni [9]
