Himesh, apart from singing is also into a variety of other things. He is also an actor, a music director, a film producer, a lyricist, a script writer, a television producer as well as a distributer. He was born in the City of Dreams Mumbai present in Maharashtra, India. He is the son of Vipin Reshammiya, the veteran music director and Gujarati musician, and Madhu Reshammiya. His family originated from a place called Bhavnagar present in Gujarat. He completed his schooling from Hill Grange High School situated on Peddar Road, Mumbai. It was here that he met Prashant Chadha, his best friend. Prashant was the main man who was responsible for giving Himesh that nifty look with the cap. He was also responsible for directing each and every one of his music videos for the films ‘Aksar’, ‘Tom, Dick and Harry’ and ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’. When he was 16 years of age, Himesh started doing music direction and he also started producing television serials such as ‘Amar Prem and ‘Andaz’. He even composed the main theme songs for both of these television serials.
Salman Khan gave Himesh his first major project as a music director for the Sohail Khan directed movie ‘Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’, along with well-known composers Jatin Lalit and Sajid-Wajid. After this album turned out to be a huge success Salman and Himesh worked together to bring out several hit movies such as ‘Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge’ and ‘Yeh Hai Jalwa’. The 2003 Satish Kaushik directed ‘Tere Naam’ was Himesh’s first success as a music director. After attaining numerous successes as a music director, Himesh moved on to playback singing with ‘Aashiq Banaya Apne’ being his first film. The songs of this movie turned out to be a big success. Songs like ‘Zara Jhoom Jhoom’, ‘Tanhaiyan’ and ‘Tera Suroor’ created a big buzz all around. Himesh’s music is characterized by a fusion of Indian and Western classical music along with techno beats.
It was announced in 2010 that the well-known music video director named Roman White will be directing the videos of Himesh’s first ever international English album titled ‘@ Da Edge’, which will be released this year.
Himesh has made several remarkable achievements. He performed at the Heineken music Hall and at the humongous Wembley stadium and he was the first Indian to have done so.
He has also been working with Aisha Sagar for the music album named ‘Arzoo Arzoo’ which will be released this year.
Himesh began his maiden journey in acting with Prashant Chadha’s ‘Aap Kaa Surroor: The Real Love Story’.
He has presently signed for Rohit Shetty’sfilm ‘Chennai Express’ which has Shah Rukh Khan and Deepkia Padukone in its ranks. He has also signed for a movie named ‘Meerut Junction’.
Himesh had also played an active role as a mentor and as a judge in the television reality show, ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge’ aired on Zee TV. His singing troop was called ‘Rock Gharana’. In 2007, he became the winning mentor in that show. Two years later in 2009, a member of his group, Vaishali Made won the ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge’. He is also the mentor, the team captain and the judge for the team ‘Himesh’s Warriors’ for the show called ‘Music Ka Maha Muqqabla’ broadcasted on Star Plus. Himesh Reshammiya hails from Gujarat. His father Vipin Reshammiya was born at Dungar, a small village near Rajula. Himesh speaks fluent Gujarati.
Pre Film Career[edit]
Himesh lost his elder brother at the age of 11; Himesh decided to take up music as his career after the incident to fulfill his father's wishes. He did his schooling at Hill Grange School in Peddar Road area, Mumbai. Himesh started his career with HR Enterprises production house which produced and aired quite a few TV soaps on Doordarshan Ahmedabad and Zee TV. His Popular Zee TV serial were Andaz, Amar Prem, Jaan, Ashiqui, Dum Dama Dum to name a few. Himesh composed/wrote the music, screenplay and story for all of his TV serials. His Music was quiet prominent and loved by the viewers. Himesh then got the opportunity with HMV to do the a music album with Suchitra Krishnamoorthi titled Zindagi. While all the songs were composed by Himesh, one of the songs was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber which had a video. During his TV serial production days he met Salman Khan who gave Himesh his first film break.
Music and film career[edit]
- Himesh Reshammiya's first big break came through his good friend Salman Khan. Khan gave Reshammiya the chance to be a music director for the movie Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya along with composers Jatin–Lalitand Sajid–Wajid.
- After the success of the album, Khan and Reshammiya shared many hit filmi albums together, such as Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Yeh Hai Jalwa, Tere Naam,Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?,Bodyguard, 2014 Blockbuster Hit Kick,Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and many more.
- Himesh had his first success[citation needed] as a music director of the 2003 Super Hit film, Tere Naam.
- After a series of successful films as music director, Himesh entered playback singing with the film Aashiq Banaya Aapne, the songs of which went on to become major hits. Alleged copyright violation[edit]
In his debut film as an actor, Aap Kaa Surroor, Himesh Reshammiya added a song Tanhaiyaan from Boney Kapoor's proposed film Milenge Milenge.[5] Initially, Reshammiya had composed the song for Kapoor's film but later decided to use it for his own movie. Tips, which held the audio rights of Milenge Milenge, accused Reshammiya of copyright violation, as audio rights for Aap Kaa Surroor – The Real Luv Story were acquired by T-Series.[6] However, Reshammiya defended himself saying that he had made Kapoor listen to the song, but it was not included in Milenge Milenge. He also claimed to have tried to get in touch with Kapoor for seven months, and since there was no progress on the film, he decided to use the song for his own movie.[7]

Himesh Reshammiya won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 2006 for Aashiq Banaya Aapne and also received several awards like Star Screen Award, IIFA Award, Zee Cine Award for this song and became first ever Bollywood singer to receiveFilmfare Award for his debut song. He also received several nominations for his Music Direction. He was presented the Phalke Best Supporting Actor Award for Khiladi 786 at 13th Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards.[8]
