Arunachal footballer Gumpe Rima joins TFA as coach

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh footballer Gumpe Rime, after serving the Shillong Lajong FC as a goalkeeping coach for four years, has joined Tata Football Academy, though he was selected for FIFA-AIFA Academy, Bangalore too.

A happy Rime said a few days after he joined the TFA that getting an opportunity to join the FIFA-AIFA Academy was a "dream come true" for any footballer.

However, he settted for the TFA purely because of financial consideration.

"I am glad that my hard work and dedication has been recognised. I will work harder to develop and nurture young talent for the mainstream Indian football which is the motto of TFA," says Rime.

TFA, one of the premier football training academy in India, was conceived in 1983 and inaugurated by Russi Mody on December 28, 1988.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF), founded in 1937, gained FIFA's affiliation in 1948.

Rime's reputation as a footballer is next to Baichung Bhutia in the Northeast and he played a stellar role in the Arunachal football team's participation in the maiden 10-day Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament, organised by the Meghalaya Football Association, last March.

The league aims at promoting a healthy competitive spirit and camaraderie in the youth and players of the eight NE states.

Rime played for the India youth team in the Asian Youth Championship at Bahrain and has a 'C' certificate (coaching) from the Asian Football Confederation.

He has a goalkeeping coach certificate from the German Football Federation.
