Madhuri Dixit - the ultimate woman
You may have already seen it on youtube, which I have not done this recently, but here comes another one of my Madhuri tribute videos. Hopefully you will like it!

How I wasn´t happy when Madhuri Dixit signed a new film
I've been waiting for a year. Fairly short time relative to the other fans, which have to wait for four. And between Devdas and Aaja Nachle was even bigger gap. But it still felt very long and I'm sure all the fans understand why. Seeing Madhuri Dixit at least one movie has been my desire since I've become addicted to Bollywood. I like to jump around the room, screaming with joy when she finally releases a new film. Yesterday his new film was announced. And I .... is not satisfied.
I feel rather disoriented to be honest. The burning desire to see her perform and sizzle has not died out, but I would rather keep my wishes and dreams, so to see a film that would not be good enough. And since Aaja Nachle had so undeservingly just a little success, as a fan, I was hoping for something smashingly successful. And the film advertised does not fill me with any hope whatsoever.
Sanjay Dutt has clearly roped her into his remake of Satte Pe Satta, originally played Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini. There is no doubt that she will be amazing, but I honestly hoped for something that Bhansali's Mastani, or something new, original, mature, worthy of her immense talent. I guess I would be happy if it was certain that Madhuri will sign other projects for the coming year as well. But there is that one problem with being a Madhuri fan - you never know when she'll show up, and there is certainly no telling how long the gap between her projects be. Sure, the best thing to happen to an adult drama / romance / masala with Shahrukh for me, but there are other great ideas - and mainly co-stars as I want to see her. Leaving alone Aamir and Salman, it is Saif Ali Khan, which I think will be a very good match for her, and it is Akshaye Khanna, especially since he and Madhuri looked so awesome together in Aaja Nachle and we never got to see any real "conditions "of the movie. Or if you really want to bring her back to an older actor, it's always Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff is. To be honest out of all the co-stars I think Sanju Baba has not aged well, and I've never seen him more than just a good actor (meaning not great - and I ask for forgiveness from all his fans).
Back then they looked good together. But times have changed and I have my apprehensions.
One longs also for a role that will be Madhuri what "Mother India" was Nargis and "Mughal-e-Azam" to Madhubala, what "Umrao Jaan" was Rekha. The closest to anything like that was Chandramukhi in Devdas, but there is still that little fact she was considered a supporting character.
Also Satte Pe Satta has many supporting characters. So did Aaja Nachle, but where the supporting cast was just amazing, and I pray that this will be the same case. But there are several things I fear. I personally have not yet seen Sohal Shah earlier work (he is a director), but I heard filled me with horror! That's my biggest concern. Sometimes I wish Madhuri actually made herself who she works with .....
Well, all I can say now that it is quite difficult for me to make peace with this news. I'll try to block out everything else and concentrate only on the fact that Madhuri makes a film. And I will pray it turns out well. And it will not bomb at the box office. Because I can see exactly what happens .....
And that's why I was pleased when Madhuri Dixit signed his new film. --------------------- 17.5. 2011 - UPDATE:
After the initial shock washed over (mainly the choice of a hero and director) and after I saw the original Satte Pe Satta, I slowly regain my optimism. All I will say now:
Madhuri - good luck, we know you'll be fantastic!
Sanjay - good luck, get in shape!
Sohal Shah - if you screw up, I'll kill you!
everyone else - go and see this in a theater when it comes out!
Madhuri loved and hated
Hated .... OH so hated!

(here I must say I hate Sonam Kapoor, I just think she's pathetic actor and I did not give her much thought beyond the span of a film), and your taste has every right to differ.
But there are still plenty of them haters who spend their lives hating on someone they have never met, drawing conclusions from short gossip article titles, and they are able to find the most unflattering pictures. They can be recognized by USING CAPS LOCK, usually have poor spelling and grammar, haunt youtube and haunt Pink Villa. And some of them hate Madhuri. Oh how much they hate her. Just recently I found a facebook group that says it all: we hate Madhuri (Juhi is best). Obviously there are only six members and the group was so "popular" that will be filed soon .....
Some certainly know her through and through - plus they have daily guests in their house!

So what did we learn (apart from the fact that if you want to hate on someone it is best to be anonymous on the Pink Villa)? It Madhuri is a bad actor, bad dancer, nasty, manipulative, vulgar ..... I really wonder why I love her?
Loved ... OH so loved!
For every hurtful comment, for every vicious attack, there are hundreds and hundreds expression of love and gratitude. Each of these hateful comments received overload of responses from Madhuri supporters. Yes, some of these answers ugly (and as soon as they defame other actors, I do not consider them worthy of praise Mads), and I do not agree with his way of leading an argument. But some are beautifully told, beautifully expressed, and so very much from the heart ....

And one message for all the haters out there: You realize Madhuri did not give a damn about the hat, right? Would not it be better to go and waste your life in some other way?
When dil goes dhak dhak (part 1)
To select TOP 10 of Madhuri Dixit's dance number turned out an impossible task. There is probably no other actor who had so many incredible dancer. Plus, what's more, added the magic she and her choreographers created, much to the hit status of the songs used. Ek Do Teen Mera Piya Ghar or Aaya would never have been as popular had it not been for Madhuri sensational dance. But I must say that the dance numbers are the most popular, not always necessarily the "best" they Madhuri has done. And then finally I decided to make two articles ..... Today we remember the famous and large ones (most of which were choreographed by the one and only Saroj Khan) in two parts (cause it's a helluva lot of them), tommorow we will take a look at more, which seems quite forgotten or were literally lost in time (and most of them were too choreographed by Saroj Khan) .....
Should we go with the timeline, and the first big and huge and super-FAMOUS Madhuri dance must be Ek Do Teen from Tezaab (1899). The voice of Alka Yagnik sang about numbers inspired Saroj Khan came out with a catchy choreography influenced by Western dance, and dance their way did the rest. Madhuri, until then trained only in Kathak, initially had a difficulty in coping Filmi dance. Till then what dance she did was more or less classical. And Saroj Khan was not optimistic. "You will not be able to do this," she said to the girl, and with these words she run Madhuri will and stubbornness. She stood up to the challenge and practiced for several days, from morning to night without a break. Until Saroj Khan literally folded his hands in front of her with "Madhuri, that's enough." "No, I'm going again tommorow," the girl replied. But choreographer prayed some more, "I will not have time for you. I have to train the group" And adamant girl just said. "Do not wory about me. She was shooting for 25 hours-she wanted to give her best, and I think that's why the song became a legendary song." And Madhuri admits that most of the final movie was shot after a full day at 5:30 pm, after a full day of working relentlessly.

Ram Lakhan was shot before Tezaab, but was delayed in post-production and thus released only after Tezaab had been a hit. This definitely worked in Madhuri's favor. She may have gone largely unnoticed as subtle and decent Radha, but Ek Do Teen Mania and sudden demand made her one of the attractions of the film, which went on to become a blockbuster. And she did not let anyone down. Very well known Bada Dukh Deena was the first Lata Mangeshkar song ever picturized on Madhuri and she looked great Lata-ji fan was very excited about it. Saroj Khan has been told here by Subhash Ghai, who had just taken a young Madhuri under his wing, that she should not let the girl dance "too much" during the song, and then in several brief moments showcase their talent and potential. And Saroj Khan did just that. It was also here, while young Madhuri is "singing" and expressing their grief through her eyes and face, that people for the first time noticed the similarity with the legendary Madhubala.
Sailaab not bring a flood of viewers to theaters and it made a below average bussiness, but it is remembered today for one reason only - Humko Aajkal Hai Intezaar. The song was unusual because only the chorus was sung by the heroine, and the rest was entrusted to backup vocal singers. And Madhuri did honestly wonder what she will do during the parts when she does not "sing". But Saroj Khan had a clear picture in her mind, and when she managed to calm down the dancer, they created history. The Sailaab song is possibly the most popular Madhuri dance number in India till this day. It mesmerized the audience. Karan Johar recalls how he still bought tickets, went into the theater, so the song and came out, because he could not get over "how briliantly she could dance, which was choreographed briliantly and how fantastic she looked."

When he was first told that he is expected to dance, and on top of it to dance with Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, a guy with a good heart and no dancing ability whatsoever, was petrified. He practiced for more than a month before he was safe enough, and all the practice did bring its fruit. Wild, energetic and very much westernized Tamma Tamma was one of the most physically demanding dances Madhuri was ever forced to do. And it was not just because she was dancing in high heels. A little "Michael Jackson" sequence with a chair, as you can see for yourself, shot in a single continuous take. Fire dancers. Every time one of them made a mistake the whole thing had to start again. And again. In the end it was exactly 36 unsuccessful takes! And when Madhuri and others finally sat down and took off his shoes, their feet were blistered and bleeding. This shows clean profesionalism and determination.
Dhaka. A song that earned Madhuri her most famous nickname and cemented its position as a superstar. Provocating? Yes. Bold? Most definitely. Sensual? HELL YEAH! Vulgar? Never. And that's it. Dhaka knocked the breath out of everyone when they saw Madhuri dressed in a bright orange saree to take a deep breath of his own, while Anil Kapoor (Oye lucky man!) Held arms back. Originally intended for Sridevi, who refused, the movie Beta on the day the premiere yourself unoficially remaned to Beti thanks to Madhuri powerful performance (she received her second Filmfare award for this film). And Dhaka was the icing on the cake. The song was shot in an unusual hurry - in exactly three nights (usually a song takes at least seven days to complete), and the set was originally full of vibrant colors. But cameraman proclaimed kit that horrible and on demand his everything was toned down in dark tones that made the orange saree really shine. And of course, Madhuri.

Do you really think it's just a heart longing for love hiding under a certain choli? Well, it did feminist organizations, who were loudly protested against the song, do not. Choli Ke Peech raised a storm even before the movie Khalnayak made its appearance in the movie theaters across the country. The provocative title was enough to shock the critics and pretty much everyone .... Today it is a legendary song with a story of its own! Choreography (once more by Saroj Khan) included a lot of traditional folk movements and to this day can not help but be mesmerized by the seemingly small things that come together to create breathtaking dance numbers. Be it the fact that when Madhuri first appear face is covered, be it a seductive movement of her perfect hips as she goes, be it leg movement that makes the skirt dancing along ....
When dil goes dhak dhak (part 2)
Mera Piya Ghar Aaya is a dance number that I always recommend when trying to introduce Madhuri Dixit to someone new. Because it's practically perfect. Again Madhuri love for dance is more than obvious, and no one can tell how much my knees hurt after shooting! Not a moment she lets go of that joyful, sweet and misch vous expression. The dance was part of a movie Yaraana (1995), and although the film did only average business, the song was almost a anthemn. When Madhuri married in 1999, and knowledge of it spread out, it was special TV programs that show this very song.
There is no anecdote related to "Maya Dance" featured in a hit film Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), at least not known to me. All that can be said is that this was the only classical dance numbers in the film, and it was choreographed by Jaikishan Maharaj Kiran. I know several people who bought the DVD just for this dance. No wonder. Madhuri dressed very simply in white, giving up the beat with drums, dancing in the moonlight, is an amazing sight to see. When I saw the dance for the first time, I had the exact same expression on my face as Shahrukh Khan in the movie!

Makhna presented Madhuri (very much will and with her consent) in a brand new sexy way. The ultra-short skirts, ponytails, straight hair ...... everything was very different from his usual image. And it worked magic! It was this item song and a guest appearance in a film bathing Miyan Chhota Miyan (1998) which brought together three grat names - Madhuri was accompanied by Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda, and all three fondly remember the seven days Madhuri used on the sets of film. It was the first (and seems that also the last) time Madhuri and Big B were together in one film frame. "While working with Madhuri in Chhota Miyan," tweeted Amitabh in December 2010, "the first thought that crossed my mind was that I should have born 20 years later."

90s saw globalization of Indian cinema on a truly massive scale. Up to this point westernized dance was seen in Bollywood films, but the classical dance and choreography inspired by it held the upper hand. But as the western trends became more and more fashionable, this also is changing. One of the best choreographers inspired by the west is Prabhu Deva. And when Madhuri was told that he was responsible for one of the dance numbers in Pukar (2000) for the first time in her life she was afraid of dancing, absolutely terrified she will not be able to do it. And although Mr. Choreographer kept reassuring her steps were all "very easy", none of them were easy and it took Madhuri some time to master them, too, because she was down with fever for several weeks at a time. Eventually the song was shot several times, because the two main dancers were not quite satisfied with the result. Today Que Sera Sera is one of the most popular Madhuri dance numbers.

Lajja (2001) was a film full of star guest apearance. Urmila and Sonali Better Matondakar both were roped off for part numbers and both were excellent, but the true dance highlight of the movie was Badi Mushkil performed by Madhuri. As a theater actor Jhanki she wants to share her joy and dance with Manisha Koirala, who is trying to join her near the end, but can not really match our lady. Manisha admited: "Initially I was a little skeptical thanks to some of my earlier brash statements but when she thawed, she was lovely Oof, she's gorgeous, and I am convinced that she is a straightforward person What you see is what ..... you get. It took me ten years to realize that though. know what? She helped me out with my dance moves during rehearsals for Lajja. I'm her biggest fan today. "
"I was always a fan Madhuri Dixit. But after doing Devdas, I was her happy., We used to shoot late at nights that almost all songs in Devdas Madhuri's last night. But on the stroke of the morning hours at about 4:30, I again used to seeing MD, very fresh, quiet and engrossed in her exercises. She used to practice each step as perfect as Pandit Birju Maharaj ji has just now learned her. This shows her professionalism, her dedication to her work. Otherwise I have seen actors be extremely late in the shot or give it a full ship. working with Madhuri was like a morale boast. If a superstar can work so hard, so why can not people like us? "That's how Milind Gunaji recalled working with Madhuri in SLB's Devdas. And whatever you think of it as a movie, did Devdas Madhuri give three of her most beautiful, iconic dances. Kahe Chhed Mohe is possibly the most glorious moments of cinematic dance ever. Maar daal is considered by many to be the ultimate mujra song. And Dola Re Dola is probably the most amazing dance numbers I've ever seen. The latter two were choreographed (probably once) with Saroj Khan, was Kahe Chhed Mohe entrusted to Pandit Birju Maharaj, a Kathak Master, which Madhuri admits to being completely in awe of. And demanding Master allowed himself heard "by Madhuri Dixit, I did not find any actor capable of performing classical dance flawlessly."

So far the past ....... and I ask not the last ever. The film Aaja Nachle (2007) did not succeed in India, but it recovered all its costs and did reasonably well abroad, but the title track picturized on Madhuri has become hugely popular. Vaibhavi Merchant is not an easy task, but did a good job and gave Madhuri moves we had not seen her do before. The black and blue striking imagination is Aaja Nachle made a huge impact, even if the film is not.

Madhuri's forgotten dances
There are so many .... I have not even seen them all .... Generally the films that do not do well. And with them they been forgotten. Undeservingly. Because they were awesome. Not all of them. Some had trashy music. Some had worthless choreography. She was still as graceful and lovely as always in all of them. They forgot dances Madhuri's sometimes actually even more amazing when they saw the much celebrated. Some of these are described in this very article. And again, the timeline, I have this beautiful dance, which has only recently made it's way to me. Because it is technically not Bollywood. Yes - young, pre-Tezaab Madhuri apparently made what could be called and the item number in a Gujarati film Satyavadi Raja Harishchandra. What was that about? I have no idea. What was the point of the song? Do not ask me. All I can say is - enjoy, because it's not every day you find a new Madhuri dance number!

Both Ladoo Yeh Ladoo (sung by Asha Bhosle) and PEHLI PEHLI Baar Aisa Thanedaar Aaya (sung by Alka Yagnik and Amit Kumar) was featured in a movie Thanedaar, and is, just like the venerable Mera Piya Ghar Aaya, good examples of how much Madhuri has actually dance. Both lived in the shadow of Tamma Tamma, which was completely different and very modern, while these two were classic Bollywood dances. Yet they are a treat to watch! In the second song Madhuri is joined in by Kunika, who is brave, yet it really shows the difference between a born dancer and a person who is just trying to dance.

Saajan (1992) was one of the most successful films of the 90s, and the music was very much appreciated. For some reason, but it is hardly talked about today. Maybe some think it is outdated, but that would be true of virtually every movie from that period. Saajan songs were overally slow-ish duets, but that was not the case of the oh-so-beautifully named Tu Shayar Hai, who presented Madhuri in one of the most beautiful ways. The dance was quite modern, not so much setting, which actually reminds me more of the deep 80s then year 1992. background dancers are actually quite fun to watch their little skirts and horrendous outfits, and some of them are actually quite plump, and I do not think they would have a chance to make movies today. I am happy to say that quite a few people agree to participate in our special week dedicated to Madhuri Dixit, but with their help came questions. So here comes a short, additional info.
1. What should I do? - Do you have a blog? Tumblr? Live Space? Something of the kind? So just publish an article (or articles) related to Madhuri Dixit during next week from Monday to Sunday. Do not forget to mention why you publish the AKA inform readers about The Magic of Madhuri week, so maybe they can add their two cents. On Sunday I will make an article where I will post links to your work, so if you want to be featured send me a link! And yes, it can be an older article that you have already published, only add to the information about that particular week.
2. What should I write about? - It's completely up to you! It may be summary of your thougts on Madhuri, list of your favorite dancer, a review of one of her movies, some fun, a drawing if you are skilled enough ...... anything. And you are more than welcome to write more than one article.

Madhuri Dixit was not a star child, whether she had connections or money, when she was first offered to work in films. Barely sixteen year old girl caught the attention Rajshri production thanks to her good Kathak dance and fresh, expressive face. Her debut film Abodh was far from being successful. But the skinny kids with absolutely no previous film experience (she did not even know what the camera looks and she had a shock of her life when she once leaned on the wall and actually fell through - because she was not aware that she was on the set !) managed to inadvertently steal all the attention of the viewer from her co-star Tapas Paul. She was more of a stage artist than a movie once, and it showed in the way she acted, with all the mistakes beginners in movies. In the early days, she could be so passionate in acting, it was not unusual for her to actually end up with their backs to the camera. But she learned fast. After the failure of her first film, she was above industrywallah destined to play sideroles of the sisters and girls from the crowd. Today she called "living legend", "Last Empress" and "Dancing Diva". Yes, there was definitely some luck in action, but mostly she got where she is today thanks to her sheer determination and willingness to work hard.

It's not that she was the only actor who has won millions of hearts. She was not the only one with an exceptional talent. But she is the first to have been blessed with everything: amazing acting skills, amazing dancing ability, breath-takingly beautiful face and charming personality. In her there is combined everything that people loved in the great actors of the past. Madhubala's sensuous allure, Suchitra Sen's classic Indian look, Vyjayanthimala Waheeda Rehman grace and magic. She showed us that she could be just as tragic as Meena Kumari, just as heart-breaking as Nutan, just as playful as Sridevi and as strong as Nargis. And yet you could never say she copies some. She was also the last of the old school actors, like she was the first of the new school ones.
Her range as an actor is amazing. From feisty and spirited Ganga (Khalnayak) to delicate and decent Pooja (DTPH), from cute but mischievous Nisha (HAHK) to the patient and affectionate Chandramukhi (Devdas), from Anjali, who go against the law in quite a selfish attempt to win her love (Pukar) to a worthy Paro, who is not afraid for her life in her fight for justice (Parinda). From spoiled and indecisive Anita (Deewana Mujhse Nahin) to strong-willed Ketki (Mrityudand). It is obedient childish Radha (Ram Lakhan) and it is repulsive Janki (Lajja). It is a cunning thief Seema (Khel) and strict police officer Shivangi (Prem Deewane). It is helpless innocent Gauri (Koyla) and it is Shivani, who takes bloody revenge into their own hands (Anjaam). And it's a movie called Prem Granth, as lively and dreamy Kajri undergoing a full scale of metamorphosis - from bad to deathly desperate, but still fighting for decent survival, longing for love yet afraid she not worthy of it, to be happy and broken again. There has never been a role Madhuri would not interfere with enthusiasm and devotion. Unfortunately, none of the filmmakers she has worked with in the past, the only exception being Sanjay Leela Bhansali, able to use and display their talent. As Mahesh Bhatt rightly noted, they were limited, but she was inexhaustible.

Although everyone knew her face, she had the gift of life each character and convince the audience that she is actually drawn. But this tendency amazing acting ability to be greatly underestimated by many, who see Madhuri purely as a dancer. The truth is that Madhuri is a performer who can not be distinguished as "actor" or "dances". Because she is a dancer yourself while you shop. She is also more than just an eye candy. Her beauty is legendary. There has been only one actor in the history of Bollywood, who looked like her, and it was Madhubala. Madhuri functions is very unique and quite extraordinary, very different from the usual popular round face, round eyes, all around look. Not that the others were not beautiful. While others remained even slightly older actors girly and childlike charm, she was utterly feminine, woman in every sense of the word. That also put her out.

She has a dream-like quality about her. As if she did not fully come from this world. And while she is wonderful person, a single person with no tantrums that never took success for granted.
